But oh-oh those summer nights

We tend to complain about the weather a lot, here in Denmark. Especially during the winter.

Some days, no amount of hygge seems sufficient to make up for the fact that it’s too cold, too rainy, too windy, and too dark for too long.

But when summer finally hits, boy, are we ready! Danish summer nights are a treat, and if you get the chance, you should experience them in a Danish summer house and get yourself a good portion of #sommerhushygge while you’re at it!

For the long bank holiday weekend, the boyfriend and I headed up to Rørvig and spent our days with some much-needed R&R, lounging on deck chairs with a book, magazine, podcast, or music all day long. We played board games and ate simple, home-cooked dinners on the porch with a glass of wine. It was heaven!

But no summer house visit would be complete without stops at two of my favorite spots – both of them perfect for spending a Danish summer night.

Dinner at Rørvig Havn

Every time we’re in Rørvig, we try to make it to the harbor for dinner at least once to eat the most delicious “fiskefilet”, followed by a stroll along the marina with its sailboats and yachts, a plastic cup full of cold Tuborg in hand. The sea and the sky just melt together into one enormous canvas of the richest blue. I could have stared at it for hours!

Rørvig also has an amazingly beautiful beach, so one night we hopped on the rusty, creaky old bikes and pedaled towards the water to watch the sunset.

It’s not the first time I’ve seen a Rørvig beach sunset, but it never fails to take my breath away. Some of them are rich and orange, but this one dipped the sky and beach into a beautiful palette of pastels – warm orange and soft pink melting like cotton candy into the pale blue sky above.
