Good morning, and what a wonderful one it is! I had to get up and out of the house quite early to escort my sisters to the bus back home (sad face!), but what an amazing and fun birthday weekend! too bad it’s almost over already, but this morning is just so beautiful! It’s a holiday and therefore the streets were almost empty, but the sun is shining and the sky is clear. I love these quiet summer mornings, and what better city to be in than wonderful Copenhagen?
The weekend started out on Thursday with the Distortion festival in Vesterbro, where we almost got squished to death but did manage to catch the concerts of Yepha and Suspekt (two Danish rappers/ hip hop artists). I haven’t been to Distortion before and I have to say, it’s quite an experience! If you want to go next year, keep these three tips in mind: 1) don’t bring any valuables, just some cash in your pocket, 2) wear some really old shoes, 3) don’t try to move against the stream of people, just go with the flow and see where it takes you – it’s no use anyway!
On Friday, we had a lovely brunch at Von Fressen and I marveled at how clean the streets of Vesterbro were just mere hours after the party ended – you wouldn’t have been able to tell there’d been a massive street party the day before!
After brunch, we decided to hit the second hand and vintage stores in the area, of which there are plenty, and I might have found a new favorite on Istedgade: Funky Junky! it has a clear sixties/ seventies theme and a really great selection of second hand furniture and lamps, kitchenware, household appliances as well as some clothes and shoes and records. You can also find them on Facebook.
On Saturday, we bought tickets to one of the hop-on-hop-off tourist busses and rode around a bit just for fun – I’ve lived here for almost two years now, but it’s always fun to be a tourist in your own town! Also, I got a big-girl camera now so it was good for practicing with it!
We also went by the Cope’n’Waken event at Frederiksholms Kanal right in front of Christiansborg, which seemed like good fun, except we came a bit late and couldn’t really see that much.
Finally, we had a lovely birthday dinner and some cocktails at Ruby – I love that place for its cozy atmosphere and the great cocktails. Ask them to make you one that’s not on the menu! I got a great gin and passion fruit cocktail and my sister asked for something with Pastis, which is a bit of a tough nut in terms of flavor, but the bartender came up with a great sour for her as well.
All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday weekend, and I’m already looking forward to my sisters’ next visit and all the fun stuff we have planned for then (e.g. Christiania, a tour to Malmö, a trip to Torvehallerne when all the booths are open…). I hope your weekend was fun and sunny, too!

DDas klingt alles so wunderschön – hach, da wär ich schon ziemich gern dabei gewesen!
